Mandela

Lights and Shadows

Street Exhibition, Barcelona

This ephemeral exhibition on the streets of the Raval District of Barcelona was a tribute to Nelson Mandela, South African ex-president and icon of the fight against apartheid and racism around the world. The artistic project was a reflection on freedom, racism and social duty. Next to each of the six mural works, people could read the poem Invictus, which helped Mandela to overcome his imprisonment during 27 years. The pieces remained visible more than a week and many strangers interacted with them, writing messages, taking pictures and removing scraps of paper, until they all faded away.
